"Of what is the body made? It is made of emptiness and rhythm. At the ultimate heart of the body, at the heart of the world, there is no solidity. Once again, there is only the dance." ~ George Leonard
How would I describe my teaching style? I have been told by students that they feel safe above all else in the classes I teach. Safe to express themselves in a nurturing environment, safe to play until their heart is full , safe to fall down and get back up again, and safe to just let go and let be. Whatever that means to them, whatever comes up for them I am there to create and facilitate in that space. I enjoy teaching a class that integrates different breathing techniques, different styles of yoga, including thematic, ashtanga, vinyasa flow, tantra, free flow, yin yoga and energy breath work. The overall feeling of the class tends be one of collective group energy with enough space for you to have your own experience. Using various sequences and themes, and using different genres of music I hope to create a truly unique experience. This process of yoga and learning is never ending and so I continue to take trainings and educate myself on the wonderful world of all things yoga.
I began my teaching journey in 2002 and was a part of the P.E. Department at Vistamar High in Southern California until leaving for Hawaii in the Winter 2011. Among the many classes I have taught on the beach, in yoga studios and in community centers I am exposed to students of all levels and ages reminding me that yoga is truly for every-body. I am lucky enough to have met some of the most amazing people and been able to call many of the students over the years my friends. I feel that we have so much to learn from one another. Among my many teachers I have had the privilege of studying with Erika Faith Calig, Jerome Mercier, Julian Walker, Saul David Raye, Max Strom, Tias Little and the amazing Ana Forrest.
Along with teaching yoga my passion is travel. To experience culture and unpredictability is what I crave. As I travel I am able to learn so much more about myself and grow from those I encounter during my travels. My passion in both teaching yoga and traveling has brought me to hosting yoga workshops as well as retreats in various locations. In 2005 I began hosting yoga retreats in Big Bear, California and have continued on with repeatedly hosting in Ojai and Santa Barbara and Malibu. Most recently hosting retreats at Ixchel Hawaii on the Big Island of Hawaii, Costa Rica and Italy. Stay tuned as I continue to search the globe for wonderful places to retreat and adventure and share with loved ones. Coming up soon look for Spain and Argentina as well as my home base on the Big Island of Hawaii. I will continue to nurture my spirit and hopefully yours by traveling to amazing destinations including backyard barbecues, surfing, and spending plenty of quality time reading, writing, drawing, being with friends and of course taking yoga classes.
